The Twins - A Week Old Already!

True to my word, I was able to go up to the NICU to see the precious little girls. I was there by myself, and was a few minutes late for Kate's ministrations (during which time they can be held) and early for Emma's. I had hoped to hold both. The nurse on duty (who is Care Bear's kindergarten teacher's sister), decided that she could let me hold Kate after all. What a blessing - what a peaceful half hour of holding and rocking that sweet little baby, watching her sleep, seeing her open her eyes and check me out for a few seconds, listening to her cute little sounds, praying for her.

I didn't get to hold Emma, because I had to leave for an appointment. I was sad, but at least I got to see her without her being snuggled up in her blanket. According to Erin, the nurse, she's "a lot wilder" than Kate. They have the glove from physical therapy lying on her to keep her from moving around too much. According to Kristen, Kate is much more laid back. Now that would a nice change - a mellow child in our family!!
007
They are both still a bit below their birth weights, but there is no alarm among the staff.
Several people who saw the real Wee Pee diaper said the picture was deceptive - they didn't realize how tiny it really was. So I took another picture of myself holding it so you can see it in proportion.

National Delurking Day was sometime last week and I did not get to mention it. Lurking is defined as "visiting and reading an online journal, or 'weblog' without making your presence known to the owner of the blog". I have noticed an increase in traffic here since I've been talking about Kate and Emma, and it has been such fun. I would love to know who all of you are - please de-lurk, at least this once!

Good Evening Dawn,
You have some very precious twin Grandbabies there. I bet it felt so good to hold Kate and watch her and pray over her. My heart just pitter-pattered when I read that part. The diaper is smaller in this picture. I didn't even realize they made diapers that small. All I ever knew was made was just Preemie Diapers. I'm glad you got to see Emma up close tho. I hope that Kristen is feeling better also. I am still praying for her as well as the twins. "THANK YOU" for sharing your precious Girls with us. It is hard to believe they are a week old already. The time does fly by really fast. Take care my friend and have a great evening. May God Bless You and Yours.

Hugs,
Karen H.

Well, I'm not a lurker, but here I am. ;o)

Emmy weighed 5 lbs. 14 oz. and my niece Tammy weighed 4 lbs. 6 oz. at birth and I thought they were tiny, especially Tammy, but your girls really are tiny! I'm just praising the Lord that they are doing so well! Surely they'll get to come home sooner than they first told you if they continue doing so well.

Thanks for the pictures and update, Dawn.

Have a great Tuesday!

Love and hugs,

Diane

Emma and Kate both look wonderful... they are so precious...
How is Kristen doing... this has to be very hard on her with her little family in two places... is she recovering from the C Section well...
I am continuing to pray for all of them (including the older children at home waiting and waiting to have their babies at home... and mom at home more!)

I'm a part time lurker. I just don't comment much, but I check things out.

Those girls are precious. And so, so tiny.

My mom had my brother, who was 5 lbs exactly, and her roommate had a 10 lb baby. They had so much fun comparing the two. Amazing difference.

Those diapers are a hoot!

Dawn,

From the diaper, I can see how really tiny the babies are. How wonderful that you got to hold Kate. They are both beautiful and I'm praying for them daily.

Each child has their own personality and even though they are twins they will be somewhat different in character. It will be interesting to watch them grow.

Congratulations once again. Please keep us updated on their progress.

Blessings,
Mary

I am here, and you know me! I don't have as much time as I would like because work is crazy, but I read faithfully. The little ones are just so sweet, and I can see just how tiny that NAPPY is. (I have to remind you of the English words now and then!) How wonderful to have time alone with them.

What a precious time you had with Kate and I know you will be blessed with many, many more. It is so interesting how babies personalities show right away.

Thank you for the prayers for my back and all. I truly appreciate it.

God Bless!

Reading about your twins, reminds me of my daughter, she was only 3 pounds 4 ounces !

When you can, ask about
kangaroo~care it's a great way to bond with the babies

They put the babies in diaper and wires only;then on your bare skin covered with warm blankets-- it is amazing how close you can feel to the little darlings!
Oh...i would suggest that mommy taek time each day to walk a short distance outside, weather and strength permiting-- the fresh air helped to remind me God is EVERYWhere!

My goodness, they're so small. Seeing that tiny little diaper sure makes you realize how small they actually are. But they're doing so well and for that I'm so thankful.

I know you can't wait to get those precious babies home.

Delurking as well and have totally enjoyed reading about your new Granddaughters. I am the mom of Olivia who was 1 lb 7 oz, now 4 and Ava 1 lb 6 oz, now almost 3. I am/was so amazed how you can really see their personality when they are so little!

Oh Dawn! Those little girls make my heart so happy! What a miracle they truly are.

And those diapers! You know, my own Katie, who is now 5'10" tall, a happily married woman, and an RN at a Neonatal Unit here in Minneapolis was a preemie! She was born 27 years ago and (back when the dinosaurs roamed the earth) we had to special order her Preemie diapers upon getting home. The only company that made them then...was Pampers. We kept several of them and she used them for her Cabbage Patch dolls throughout the years! We still have one for safe-keeping.....it is a tangible reminder that she was once so tiny and fragile...and thanks be to God.....is now ministering to other tiny little souls as an occupation!

The love of a Grandma! How blessed those little ones are!

Enjoy! Enjoy! Enjoy!
