Water, Hair, and Autumn Fun

I'm quite sure I blogged this story almost 5 years when it happened - when Livi was about the age the twins are now. I came into the living room to find a pile of pretty blonde hair behind the big chair. Hayley did her thing on Livi's beautiful hair.

It took a long long time for the hair to grow back to any kind of length, by the time all of the pieces were evened out.

Take a good look --

Last night at the dinner table, Dwight had the strangest look on his face. When I zeroed in on what he was staring at, I saw this --

I asked her where her missing hair was, and Emma led me right to the study/playroom closet floor. Later, Katie took credit for the new 'do. When we went to the hair salon, Emma asked Katie as we were going in the door, "Are you going to get your hair fixed, too?" Katie answered, "My hair isn't broken!" As it turned out, she ended up getting hers to match her sissy's. I think they look adorable, and not one bit like a boy (which Grandpa said they do!)

A few weeks ago I wrote a post called When a Lake Isn't a Lake. I told you I'd be back to update you when the beauty came back. If you want the whole story, feel free to go back and see what it looked like when the crops over by Greeley needed the water more than we needed the beauty - and/or the geese, ducks, and pelicans needed a place to paddle around instead of hanging out on sand bars. It's back! Not as high as it was this summer, but beautifully sparkling in the autumn sun, and reflecting the autumn leaves.

On the way home from school today, after I took the pictures of the re-filled lake, we decided to spend a few minutes at the park. I told the girls that I would like to sit in the shade and read while they entertained each other. They had a great time.

Hayley was chillin out in the great new swings.

Livi was a great helper, swinging Katie. For some reason, Emma decided to be afraid of the swings - strange after all these months of loving to swing very high.

Emma finally warmed up to the swing, as long as she was snuggling with Hayley.

The slide kept them going for quite awhile - and I managed to get them to pose.

I have much I want to share about Women of Faith last week-end, but it is hard to put the feelings into words.

I remember my kids finding scissors and doing hair styles. It's one of those things that seems to happen. :)

Thanks for sharing!!!

Your lake looks so pretty and cool. We're still in real drought conditions.

I actually remember that post about Hayley cutting Livi's hair! That's too funny about the same thing happening with the twins now...maybe they'll be future hairdressers!! lol I think they look adorable with their short hairstyle, it really suits them and I'm sure a lot easier to manage.

That lake is just gorgeous and so peaceful looking. No doubt the birds are happy to have the lake back again as well!!!

The girls looked like they were having fun at the park. Love the picture of them on the slide. xoxo

I know what you mean about putting feelings into words Dawn. I'm still processing things too. It takes me a while :-)
I did one of those haircuts on my little sister once upon a time. The results were just awful!! Trimmed my own hair while I was at it!
They are just precious little girls. I am thankful, for them, that they have you and Dwight so very present in their lives.

Oy...I remember "trimming" my bangs behind my Daddy's recliner when I was about 3. I think it's a rite of passage! I still remember hearing my Mom say, "OH NOOOOO!!!!"

I hope their hair grows out fast. But they do look pretty cute! Must be easier to wash too.

That lake is something else. It sure changes. It reminds me of our lives. Sometimes we're all filled up and beautiful, and other times we're depleted and dry. But we can know...when we're depleted and dry, that God will re-fill us sooner or later!

Hi Dawn, long time no visit. Just felt like checking in on you this morning. :o)

I don't remember ever cutting my or my sister's hair, but I know every doll that we had didn't keep it very long. I always cut off their hair, took their clothes off and generally mistreated them. You would think it wouldn't bode well for any children and grandkids I had, but I love real babies. :o)

At least the hair thing is only temporary and will be just a fond memory soon.

Hugs,

Di

Oh dear Dawn!! I never had any problems with my children cutting one another's hair. My Bec did try to cut her fringe once and the hairdresser had quite a job "fixing" it!!
The girls are so sweet. You are truly blessed to see so much of them. :)

I LOVE their little pixie hairdos!! Tell Grandpaw.....pssshaw on him.

The lake photos are super. I bet it was a glorious day to just sit in the cool shade and read a book while the girls had their fun in the sun.

Oh,.........and now that you mention it, I DO remember now just where I got the idea of cinnamon rolls with chili...at school lunches. Yum. After typing about it yesterday, I had to go to the bakery and buy 4 huge ones with the cream cheese frosting this morning....guess what we're gonna have for snacks and treats tonight after dinner? LOL

Oh my- I still don't know how I raised four girls and never had a hair cutting incident!

Your lake is beautiful. I saw on the news this week about a lake in Colorado that is going to dry up because the government has said the water belongs to Kansas and Nebraska - I was sure hoping it wasn't "your" lake. :)

Oh my goodness! Both my girls cut their hair -- what memories! They do look adorable to be sure. So glad it worked out alright. My daughter Tara had cut her bangs to the scalp!

The lake is simply gorgeous! Thanks for the update!

Have a great day!

Cute pictures I remember seen the post a few years ago on the hair cut.
The lake looks nice, better recovery then in Calif.
The girls look real cute on the slide.

Oh my...the original haircut was a doosey. They do look adorable with their new cuts. My kids didn't do that (thank goodness). Melissa told me recently when she sits down in a stylists chair she still occasionally hears her crazy mother saying "We don't ever, ever, ever, ever let anyone touch our hair with scissors except ___." (our beautician) Evidently I scarred her for life ;o)

Oh dear...closet floor...never a good sign.
I always go looking when things are quite around here.
Well the hair will be easy to comb. What did Mommie have to say?
The slide picture is a great one with them all together. seems like every time we end up at that park it is 100 degrees. and I might add the train is usually out of order when we are there.
Great free site for kids computer ... abcya.com find the word cloud on the older grades and let them add spelling words and print them out (o:

Oh my goodness, those are quite the hair cuts! It seems like they all do it at one time or the other but I like what the hairdresser did to fix them! I had a few of those in my day as a hairdresser and some were cut right to the scalp in the front! Not much you could do with that but let it grow!

So glad to see the lake back full again. The ducks must be enjoying it so much. Beautiful pictures.

I'm headed to the drug store to get something for my cold as soon as it opens. Darned ole' cold! Oh well, it could be a lot worse!

I had boys but they managed to cut their OWN hair. At least they could be buzzed. The twins look adorable. And what a lovely day you had for the park. We've had a glorious week of "Indian Summer" here in Chicago. The colors are in full swing.

I remember cutting my hair when I was about four. My dad was more angry than my mom. He called me Naughty Annie for a long time after that. That slide photo is adorable ~

Seems to be that age for the hair cutting thing. But, the new "dos" are cute on them, too. Kym never cut anyone else's but let a little boy at daycare cut hers. Oh, the drama that set off. In the great scheme of things, it is only hair and it does make for great memories ahead.
Love that the lake is re-filled. Such a beautiful spot to share the afternoon with the girls.
Cannot wait to hear more about your weekend. Have thought about attending one of those before but never have. Maybe I will combine it with a visit to CO someday and go with my friends from LNC.

I think the short hair looks adorable on them. It is amazing what they will do when they get a chance, isn't it?????

It is so nice to see the lake full again. What a beautiful setting!

Those swings look wonderful. I wouldn't mind some time in them myself. Great shot of all the girls on the slide!!!!

I'm finally getting over here. We've been out of town and I've been out of the loop!

Love the new haircuts! They look adorable. It must be some sort of rite of passage to cut your sister's hair. My sister is 6 years older than me, so she knew better. But my best friend was the victim of an older sister's haircut. And to fix it she really did look like a boy.

I can't wait until my kids are old enough for me to tell them to go play at the park while I read! That's awesome!

Love the slide photo. Such sweet girls.

Maybe Hayley & Katie will get paid to cut hair some day. :-)

Cute pictures at the park! It's fun to see the sisters playing and helping each other.

I got a good chuckle out of the hair stories. When my daughters were younger, we had an instance where the younger was angry at the elder, so she cut the elder's left ponytail off just below the rubber band. A couple of years later, the younger one wanted bangs and cut them off at the scalp.

Ginger said...

Oh my on the hair cutting. My girls all took turns cutting their own at one point or another and it was usually only the bangs thankfully, still not cute, but better than a chunk out of the side of their heads LOL

My youngest even cut the cats far and one set of her whiskers. Poor kitty survived a lot with that child.
