Monday Musings

Many thanks again for your prayers for us - Kristen has improved greatly and was able to take the big girls home for the night Saturday night. We kept the babes so she could ease back into motherhood a bit at a time. The littles are at home tonight - I get to go to the gym in the morning! We have such wonderful people in our church - someone realized how tired I am and that we could use a bit of a break. So two days this coming week, a young gal has offered to take care of the kids and do whatever we want, while someone else has offered to pay her. Isn't that awesome? There's nothing like the church family.

It has been fun having them, though exhausting. The littles especially are changing daily and it's been our privilege to watch it happen up close and personal. Grandpa DC has become VERY attached and was quite bumbed out to learn they were leaving us last night.

But as we dropped the babes at home, this song came to my mind. The lyrics aren't totally apropos, but the title is running through my brain - enjoy a blast from the past.

The latch on the dishwasher broke again. The handy dandy handy man came back over on Friday afternoon. It's funny how you don't realize what all is captured inside the dishwasher until you need it for meal prep - I am thankful that it is fixed again. I think it will last this time.

The littles enjoyed a bit of entertainment, watching him while they had their snacks.

Last year about this time I did a post on my friend Ruth's beautiful iris garden. She has probably 50 different varieties, and knows the name of each one. She gifted us with rhyzomes for two beautiful colors. We took a little jaunt out to their acreage Saturday afternoon with the girls.

If you enlarge this one, you can see the littles in their great new ride!

Recently Ruth and her husband have expanded their interests and bought some yaks. The girls really enjoyed seeing them, as well as the horses that belong to their neighbors. The bull has so much heavy fur that he likes to stay in the shade when it warms up. After all, they are from the mountains of Tibet, where it is quite cool --

This is the mama yak - I didn't get a shot of the yearling.

They also have this little calf named Sophie - she looks like an Oreo. I learned that yaks and certain breeds of cattle can be bred together.

Doesn't she have an adorable face?

The plan is to use the wool - they'll be making their own yarn and knitting beautiful things. I can't wait to see the first finished product. They also plan to have some good meat - though I think they'll have a hard time carrying out that plan - I can tell they're really attached.

Back in the 50s and 60s, long before Walker Mowers were invented, the family manufactured golf carts. Nobody knows how many were sold, but Dave has managed to track down two of them that the owners were willing to sell to him. He made the afternoon visit so much fun for the big girls, as he took them all over the property - we could hear their gleeful giggles from quite a distance.

We ended the delightful visit with some delicious juice and cookies on the patio. It was just what we needed after a very busy week.

Have a wonderful week!
