BA, Anyone?

I am waiting for someone to begin a support group - Bloggers Anonymous. At that time, all of us who have known each other anonymously can meet face to face! Face it - we have an addiction. I wonder how soon it will become a part of the DSM-IV (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition). I can see it now: Blogmania, a recently diagnosed mental disorder with the following symptoms:

  • Computer is on 24/7
  • You are running to the computer every few minutes
  • Laundry is piling up
  • Meals have become the frozen variety
  • Conversation with mate revolves around what you read in cyberspace
  • Blogger problems become bigger than life
  • Your mind is always thinking of what to write next
  • Depression occurs if there are fewer than 7 comments on any given day
  • You are sleep deprived from staying up reading hundreds of messages

Of course, this is an exaggeration, and meant to be a bit tongue in cheek. Seriously, it does become addictive. But there are so many good things about this new mania:

  • I have met so many wonderful people from so many places - Canada, Chili, Australia, every state I've lived in.
  • I have found so many kindred spirits who know my Jesus.
  • I have seen miracles through the prayers of these new friends.
  • I have laughed and cried, both with tears running down my cheeks.
  • I have discovered people who have such a gift of words.
  • I have found astounding spiritual truths from new acquaintances.
  • I have been challenged to be a better Christian.
  • I have become better acquainted with family members who are bloggers also.
  • I now look at everything that happens as a potential post. It has opened my eyes to a whole new way of looking at things.
  • My memory has been jogged and I realize what a wonderful life I have had.
  • I was reduced to happy tears when so many people welcomed our prodigal home. God is so good!
  • So many of us will someday meet, if not in this life at least in the next.

Tell me what you think - want to join?

I never thought I would see a post like this coming from you, Grandma Dawn! And to think awhile back just the word "blog" made you cringe.

Very cute. And very true!

Count me in! I'm a BA! Sadly, your exaggerations are true with me. ;) And I agree with all the good points that you mention...except for the family thing. No one I know in real life (except Laura from Here and Now because we mirled, yes we did!) blogs. :)

I think you have arrived into the mysteries of cyberspace. Any one of us could have written that exact post because we've all been there and said and done those things. I've been at it 7 months now, and while the mania has lightened up just a little, it's still very much there. I have to pry my eyes away from the monitor and my fingers off the keyboard and go do other things.

But I've learned so much about expressing myself. I could never verbalize all the stuff that is in my heart.

I would have to join your BA meetings. I had no idea just how into blogging I'd get. I actually thought when I first started doing it that I would get bored with it!

It really does just kind of slowly start eating up more and more of your time. Very addictive, especially if you start getting involved in other things going on out here. Sigh.....

Yes. I'd come up with one more thing in that second group and slap a Thursday Thirteen on it!

You are too funny...but sadly, so right! I posted my Thursday's Thirteen sometime ago regarding this very topic.

http://prayingforaprodigal.blogspot.com/2006/06/i-blog-for-thursdays-thirteen-thirteen.html

Step Number One: I'm addicted to blogging.....so what! Oh-maybe I need more intervention than I thought!

Cuz--really--what's wrong with frozen dinner meals? And who can argue with your points of becoming a better person because of other bloggers? Seriously--why turn off the computer, it's not an effective usage of time! And I am so much more motivated to even attempt the laundry when I know I reward myself with blogging time if I at least start a load!

:) Blogging is a good addiction! Is there such a thing? Maybe I'll have to do a little research on that...I'll blog about it! There ya go!

:)you made me smile today Grandma Dawn! I'm so glad you blog! And you have my vote for BA President...should the group ever get started. Maybe if we were part of a group....it would bring more validity to our blogging adventure. Instead of saying we're blogging.....when asked...we could say--gotta go to my group!

What do ya think!

Diane

Where do I sign up?

Hi, my name is Kim, my blog name is kpjara and I've been blogging for 8 1/2 months now. It's been 30 minutes since my last blog read and 20 minutes since my last comment.

Diane - I just read yours from 3 months ago! I can't believe some of the similarities - except you say it so much more creatively! What a hoot - we're all pathetic!

Kudos Dawn, I couldn't have said it better. In fact, I laughed so hard that I had to share it with my hubby and I thought he was going to take off like a whirly helicoptor with his "that's right" and "she knows what she's talking about" *smile* kind of put a plug in it when you started listing the benefits and that's when we both kind of felt all warm and cozy inside. I can't wait til we all meet one day ~ it will be glorious! :)

So THAT'S what I have!! lol I know that my life has changed quite a bit since "meeting" so many wonderful people through blogging...I don't know what I did without all of you before! I just started blogging in March of this year and I've noticed how it's taking up more and more of my time but right now it's still something I can handle...if I had kids at home and worked outside the house, then it might be a different story! lol Hugs

Grandma Dawn, this is why I love you. I know that was supposed to be tongue-in-cheek, but I think it is fairly accurate.

And to think you were so tentative and, dare I say? put off? by blogging not long ago.

It's a weird and wonderful community. I'm glad you've found friendship and comfort in it.

The design is loverly.

It is an amazing thing, this thing we call the Blogsphere! I am addicted, no doubt about it! Met some great people both online and even met some in person! It's wonderful!

Happy Thursday!

What's sad is when you realize that your blogger friends are your family too, and you miss them when you don't see them. And you actually begin to want to see them. And sadder still, when your nonblogging family and friends do not understand. Sad.

Sadly, I have to admit I'm afflicted, too. ;-)

I absolutely LOVE your new template, Dawn! :-)

And to answer your question in my blog comments, Mountain View is about 80 miles southeast of Mountain Home, I think, give or take.

sign me up Dawn...this was so well written and so, so, true!!
who knows what blogging will be like in the next 5 years, but so far it has been a great blessing in my life and when I get frustated at times and talk about shutting it down, Hubby says "NO, don't you dare, you love it so, and they love you...you can't quit!!"...so I keep tip tapping along...and fussing with blogger when it won't do my pictures and wondering and worrying where everybody is on the weekends, and loving each and every minute of it...
(((hugs)))
