Friday Show and Tell - and Twin Update

I have said often that one of my big projects after retirement would be organizing pictures that have been piling up for years. I have not started, and probably won't until it is dark and cold at night again. I've spent a lot of time reorganizing my little office/play room, which I've mentioned before, and will be sharing that process a bit later.

When you're going through old pictures and memories, it's amazing what you find. I want to show you two pictures that I have saved that appeared in newspapers - one in the local town paper and the other in my high school one.

Do you remember junior high? To me, it was when time started going fast - I think it had to do with running from class to class instead of staying in the same room all day. Do you remember Sadie Hawkins Day? We had this celebration when I was in 7th grade - I think we were supposed to ask a guy out, but I just dressed up crazy for the day at school. The newspaper must have come around and caught me with two of my classmates, for posterity. The quality of the picture after all these years is very poor, but you can see how goofy I looked - I'm the one on the left.

When I was a senior, I was the co-editor of the school paper. It was so much fun and I had the opportunity to meet and interview many interesting people. One of our staff members was an artist who was really gifted in cartooning. Each month we featured one or two seniors in the "Senior Spotlight." We would use that person's picture (mine was my junior class picture), she would add the body to represent the interests, strengths, or idiosyncrasies. Here was mine - don't you just love the glasses and the flip? (Double-click to enlarge if you want to read the story).

Do you have any funny pictures of yourself to share? We'd love to see them!

And now - the twin update - they're six months old! How could it be?? They weigh in at 11 and 12 pounds (approximately - pending their 6 month check-ups).

So you are partial to Algebra?
I'm still trying to learn it.

It's interesting to see how in many ways you are still the same "Dawn". You still like knitting and crafts. You love to read.

Do you play basketball??

Dawn,

These are just wonderful!! You must be so glad you saved them! I have boxes and boxes full of old notes, stories, photos, and articles from middle school and high school. I just can't bear to throw them out, and reading this just reaffirms for me the importance of keeping some things from the past.

And I just love the hair and glasses! Really!

Have a great weekend,
Sammy

We had spirit week during football season and dressed up every day, then had a pep rally in the gym on Friday afternoons. We did things like Rock Star day, camouflage day, 50's day, opposite day (girls dressed like guys, and vice versa) and many more that I can't remember right this minute.

But, alas - if I had any pictures they all burnt when my parents' house burned in 1987. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it. ;-)

Honestly, I don't have any pictures from those dress up days, but I wish I did.

Hope you have a great weekend, Dawn! ;o)

Love and hugs,

Diane

The babies are getting so big from the last pictures I saw, the are so gorgeous, I hope you are giving them lots of hugs and kisses.

I still say they favor Care Bear and Feisty. It won't be long before the little one catches up to her bigger sister, maybe even passing her!

Gosh, it doesn't seem possible that they're 6 months old already! Although, it's surreal that Emmy is 14 months old now too.

Tempest fugit - time flies, for real.

First....loved the twins update and the photos...DARLING outfits too.

Now on to the newspaper articles! Those were terrific for show n tell this week. How awesome that you saved all this. I bet your upcoming project when it's cold and dark again in the winter months...will be quite rewarding. I love to sit back and look at 'times gone by' with photos and such.

I just left a comment on your last post and was coming back to leave a PS and here is a new one! You are fast!! What I was going to say was the best time to come to Maine is July-September with Sept. being the coolest of the three months. I live about 25 miles from Groovy, have never met her though. We go through her town every time we go to the coast.
The twinnies look so beautiful!!! They have grown so much! What fun it must be having them! God is good!!

The twins look great! So healthy and just adorable! It's so funny how infants slowly begin to look like real people. They're amazingly cute!

Those are just great! What fun. I have some old school newspapers in a trunk in the shed that I have been wanting to get to, but I don't know if my picture is in any of them. Love the flip hairstyle! And what a neat idea to draw around the face like that.

The twins are so cute!

Dawn,

I was very shy when I was in school. I think I would have liked to work on the paper. Sounds like so much fun!

The twins are adorable in those dresses and getting so big!

Have a lovely Friday!

Hi Dawn~ I loved the photos and article. I think CareBear looks like you and I never thought that until I saw your picture today. A "Perky Senior", I think that is a great description of you in the newspaper, now you can be a "Perky Senior" again since you have retired. hehe

It's amazing that the twins are still a pound apart! Our twins are too and have been for 11 months now. I can't wait to see how long that lasts.

The girls are just precious. This 6 months has gone by so quickly and I'm delighted they are doing so good.

My computer will not accept my scans so I can't post old pictures. I haven't tackled trying to fix it yet. I have fixed some things but this may be too big for my little brain!

Have a great weekend!

Love the pictures. I have been going through some old pictures. I think there are several posts in some of them!

Those twins! Simply amazing! They are precious.

I'm trying to catch up with everyone. I'm glad to see that your retirement time finally got here. Enjoy it!

This last school year was supposed to have been my retirement year.God had a different plan and I retired two years earlier. I kept thinking I might go back to work at some point. Now I say, "NO WAY!!" I heard on TV yesterday that elementary principals go back to work in six days in our city. All I could think of was how happy I was to not have to anticipate that! :)

Just look at those precious babies. I could eat them up.

And you ... are pretty cute yourself girlfriend. Those were the days, eh?

Hey, It is 1:00 in the afternoon and I am still in my pjs. I am retired too you know. But I have to get dressed now to go out and get the mail.

I didn't participate in Sadie Hawkins that I could remember or if I did, I might have blocked it out.

The twins are so cute. Oh my. I love their little outfits.

Oh what fun to see those two newspaper clippings! The only time I can remember dressing up at school was for a 50's Dance that our school had held one year...I had the poodle skirt, little white shirt, bobby sox and saddle shoes, complete with ponytail! I don't have any pictures unfortunately:-(

The twins are getting more and more adorable each time I see their picture. Yes, it is indeed hard to believe that they're 6 months old already!! xoxo

How can those twins be 6 months old. Life is just rushing by this year!
Loved your trip down memory lane. I posted a picture of me at Jr. High age today today. It's me, but those days seems like so much in the distant past!

Dawn,

I loved your flip hairdo. I wore mine the same. Those were the days. And you have some great mementos from this time in your life.

The twins are beautiful and those outfits are lovely. My how the girlies have grown. Seems like yesterday that they were newborns.
Enjoy your time with them.

I don't know where Kristen finds these outfits, but those babies look adorable, Dawn. And they're very quickly catching up with Avery. She's four months and 13 pounds, quite the little chunky baby. They're just as cute as they can be.

The first thing I noticed about your Sadie Hawkins photo is that both your kids look like you did when you were younger. Spitting image, actually.
