Carry Me Back to Old Minnesota!

In my mind that's where I have gone in the last 24 hours. But in talking to my blog friend, Diane, in Minnesota, they have NOTHING on the ground. According to the news, our storm is heading that way, but it will turn into slush and rain - yuck, icy roads!

I'm going to post the aftermath in our yard. If you haven't heard any news, we have been in throes of a horrendous blizzard, one like we haven't had for the last 4 years. There are 4700 people stranded at the airport and it won't open again until Friday morning - optimistically, that is. They're going to try to bus the folks to downtown Denver today, at least - where will they stay when they get there? The hotels are full of the ones who were lucky enough to get out yesterday before the airport was totally inaccessible, in or out. It has stopped snowing at our house, but Denver is still getting some. Thankfully the wind has stopped.

I was home with the kiddoes when they finally closed the university, Anakin's school, my husband's work, my DIL's work, and everyone headed for home. It took Kristen an hour to get here, and my husband also. They usually take about 20 minutes. It got worse after that. Everything's closed today as well, but I'm wishing I was at work - I was going to be there all by myself in the office, be able to concentrate, and catch up on all the stuff that built up last week when I took that much-needed time off! I'm really paying for that nice week. Now I won't be back there until next Thursday because of my work schedule and the holiday closure on top of it. But the mail for that admission deadline will still be heading this way, building up somewhere until someone can deliver it to me! Yikes!!

The neighbor guys were having a blast last night with their snowmobiles with snowboards attached to the back - at least someone was having fun!

Well, Bing's been singing about that White Christmas about 30 times a day on the radio - here it is!

Blizzard of 2006 006
Picnic Anyone?
Blizzard of 2006 001
Cook those burgers and brats!
Blizzard of 2006 002
Watch the cooking - don't let them burn!
Blizzard of 2006 010
The wind-blown eaves
Blizzard of 2006 008
The wind kept some of the trees free of snow.
Blizzard of 2006 003
The eaves from the kitchen - rippled snow.
Blizzard of 2006 004
Right outside the back door.

Wow! That a lot of White Christmas!
Hope you're warm and safe...
Look on this time away from work as a gift to prepare for this joyous season!
Everything at work will wait and it will all work out just the way it's supposed to...
((hugs))

Thank you Lord for White Christmas SOMEWHERE else...I'll keep my clear blue skies and roads!

It really is beautiful and if I never had to drive again, I'd love it, but only for a few days then I need to have warm, sunny skies!

Wowzer!

YIKES! What a mess! Glad everyone made it home before the big blast....and at least had a little fun!

What a ton of snow. Keep the photos posting....it may be the only snow we see here in Minnesota! Although you are so right--the rain has started and the ice is forming. Go figure!

Blessings!

Diane

Yay!!! I can see your post now! And hopefully I won't have to post this comment as Anonymous. We'll see....
I think I finally got signed in to my Google account.

Love the snow pictures, Dawn. You could have sent us half your snow and still had plenty for yourselves. Don't you think you're being a little stingy by not sharing with us here in Arkansas? LOL. ;D

I'll have to enjoy your snow vicariously through your pictures, I suppose. We're not likely to get much if any snow here for Christmas.

Y'all stay safe and warm if you can, and have the best Christmas ever, Dawn. Take care of yourself, too, and get well soon, my friend.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Love,

Diane J.

Lucky you... a white Christmas. I think it is God's way of saying, "sit back, relax, and enjoy, remember I'm in charge here." And yes He is!

Better you than me!!! I spent 19 years in Spokane, WA before moving to Tennessee - I've seen enough snow to last me a lifetime. One year we had snow on the ground for 256 straight days. It's pretty when it first falls, but it doesn't take long for it to become dirty and yucky. Well, just continue to enjoy your time off - your work will wait!!! Merry White Christmas!

Boy, these photos bring back memories, Dawn. We still lived there and suffered through the blizzard of 2002. We lost power for several days so it was truly gruesome. This is beautiful, but I do understand the frustration of knowing your work is piling up and you can't be there to catch up.

So really all you can do is enjoy it as best as you can. I know getting around for the last minute groceries and Christmas preparations will be a mess, but it is a blessing that you're all safe and together.

Merry Christmas, Dawn, to you and your family. You've been a true friend to me this year. Meeting you has blessed me.

Ah yes - I remember it well. It really does look beautiful, but I wouldn't want to be driving in it. I'm glad your family is all home safe and sound.
Try not to think about work (easier said than done - I know) and enjoy Christmas. Have a wonderful day. It has been such a blessing getting to know you Dawn.

Dawn, what a snowfall! I can't even imagine the immensity of it...and those poor people stranded at the airport. Here we are enjoying above record temps and loving it. Wish we could share, but our weather change is just around the corner...has to be. thanks for posting the pictures...a picture is worth a thousand words they say, it sure helps to see it. Wishing you a wonderful Christmas!
