Art in the Park

Our town has become a mecca for bronze sculptors - there are numerous casting studios. There are sculptures placed in interesting places all over town. I am going to show you my favorites, as well as those I don't care for. They say "beauty is in the eye of the beholder." This beholder likes the realistic ones.

The girls and I go to library story time every Wednesday morning. Care Bear is in school now, so it's Feisty and the twins. There is a park beside the library - I enjoy visiting with the young moms while we swing the kids. It should be very interesting when the twins want to be pushed at the same time.

This is one of my favorites, between the library and the park the wagonload of kids on their way to oir from the park with bunches of books (covered up by Fiesty!) - It was commissioned by a family in honor of their parents.

There is a a lagoon there as well, where you can feed the ducks or just enjoy the art that has been somehow very strategically placed.

Further down the path, there is a lovely fountain - there are concerts held here all summer long.
009
The city offices are just behind this fountain - one of the two buildings was the first school in our town - it was totally refurbished when many wished to tear it town. Instead, they created a twin building and made it a beautiful spot to work for the city.

Here is a closer shot of the piece in the courtyard outside of the two buildings, which are connected by a glassed in walkway. It's supposed to represent the circle of life.

Continuing our walk around the lagoon, we come to two of my very favorites in the whole city. These people are playing and singing a song about our town.

This one almost makes me cry.

Next week the girls and I will take a walk around another park. I'll share some more favorites and some not-so-favorites. Come and visit me and we'll go for some walks together.
On an entirely different note, today was the final weigh-in for the contest. I'm anxious to hear the results. Stay tuned!

The bronze sculptures are so beautiful, and the grounds, too.
But if I could choose only one, it would have to be "Departure". Of course I really like the eagle. too. What a great place for the children to enjoy.

What beautiful statues...I do love the one of the couple on the bench, that is SO sweet!

I was just reading your post below, too...loved the photos, Dawn!
And you're so right...now days Kindergarten is all about learning to read, ect...before, it was just learning letter sounds and how to count!

You asked me if we're back to school yet, but I've decided to wait until the 9th. We've been doing a tiny bit of school work one morning a week most of the summer, so I'm not worried about starting a week after the local public schools. But I ordered some new books so it should be fun!

Looking forward to some more walks through the park with you here!

I have to agree, I like realistic art. I don't care at all for abstract stuff. Just not my thing. To each his own, I suppose.

I like the ones around the pond and fountain. They look like they belong there.

Have a great week, Dawn.

Love and hugs,

Diane

Dawn,

The first sculpture is delightful. Those children are just adorable, including your precious Feisty. My other favorites are the singers and the couple on the bench. Any town would be proud of these beautiful pieces of art.

In answer to your comment on my harvest post, corn is expensive here this year as well. $5.00 per dozen and you don't even get the baker's dozen like you did a few years ago. With the weather we've had this year in the US and Canada, I fear the prices will rise even more. Have a great week.

Blessings,
Mary

This park reminds me of one in Brownsville, Texas. Love the sculptures, especially with Fiesty in the wagon!

What a lovely park Dawn. I agree with you. I like the life-like ones the best. I'm sure this marks me as a rank amateur art critic, but those modern sculptures and modern paintings look as though any two year old could have done them. I guess it's just me.....
Have a blessed week Dawn.

I'll be thinking of you on Wednesday mornings now getting ready for your story time while I'm at our story time. :-)

All of the sculptures are amazing! I love the first one you posted of the children.

What a beautiful park! And I love the sculptures, especially the one of the people playing the instruments.

And that Feisty is SO CUTE!! She reminds me of Ramona Quimby, my very, very favorite character of all time!

Congratulations on your weight loss, Dawn. Good for you. When I'm trying to lost the baby weight in a few months, perhaps I'll need your advice! :-)
