Tuesday Trivia

Thank you for all of your kind concern about the headache. I haven't had a chance to get my glasses adjusted, but definitely need to get that done. I really have a new empathy for those who suffer from migraines.

Today we woke up to a small snow accumulation - not enough, but better than none. The sun came out and most of it is gone, but there is a very cold breeze going through your bones when you go outside.

So - is anybody watching American Idol, Season 8? I must admit I'm addicted - I have watched it from the beginning this year. I have to say there have been some very poor decisions made, but the final group has finally been decided upon and tonight starts the countdown to the finale. I really like Danny Gokey and Michael Sarver because of their testimonies. I heard Michael say that he and Danny have a great time sharing their love for the Lord. They both work in the music ministry of their churches. Here's hoping Adam Lambert bites the dust first thing. And what's with that raucous red hair on the 16-year-old with the braces (that's a first!)

Since I'm on the subject of television - I discovered TCM recently - Turner Classic Movies. I watched "Roman Holiday" the other night - really fun. This week-end I happened upon the old Dr. Kildare movies - from back in the early 1940s.

I recorded 5 of them for future enjoyment. I watched the first one and I have to say - the medical field isn't anything like what was portrayed back then. I'm not sure I'll watch all of them, but it's kind of fun - I never really knew there was a Dr. Kildare before my teen idol.

Of course, that was long before he broke my heart by "coming out." I thought Richard Chamberlain was the cutest guy ever. I loved the show. Simultaneously, Ben Casey was another medical show that was popular. He was handsome in a darker way. He had a rather scratchy personality, where Dr. Kildare was the kind of doctor you'd want to have treating you if you were in the hospital.

Do you remember Ben Casey and Dr. Kildare shirts? I wanted one so badly, but we never had money for "foolish" purchases. We never got in on the fads until they were past their prime. If ever. The good news is that fads never lasted too long. Did you have a Nehru jacket? Same era. I never wanted one of those.

We didn't get a t.v. for quite awhile after others did. It wasn't only because were poor. I think I've told before about my dad fixing everyone's everything in the little town of Heber Springs, Arkansas, to keep food on the table. The church didn't pay much! We would always urge Dad to keep the repair t.v. sets until Monday so we could watch Saturday morning cartoons.

When we finally did get a set, we weren't allowed to watch too much - homework, church, chores all came first. But I remember my excitement when my English teacher assigned a paper based on a Dr. Kildare episode. I don't think my folks believed it was possible, but it was true.

I was also crazy about the theme song, Three Stars Will Shine Tonight. Oh, my word, what a tear jerker! I didn't remember that Richard Chamberlain actually sang it. Look what I found!

I haven't been following American Idol but now you have me interested.

I'm not much of a tv watcher...but I AM addicted to Survivor. Mozart and I watch that together every week. At least it gets us talking.

Oh Dawn, I am so sorry that Richard Chamberlain broke your heart! :-) (But I can't stop laughing about that one!)

I think I'm going to start watching AI now. For some reason I can't sit through all the auditions and the poor kids who don't make it or who make fools of themselves. It's too uncomfortable for me! But now is when it starts to get fun, so I think I'll tune in!

I love Roman Holiday! I'm a big Audrey Hepburn fan. My favorites are "A Nun's Story" and "Two for the Road".

Hi, Dawn! You really can find everything on Youtube, huh? I didn't recognize Richard Chamberlain until you gave his name, and I totally forgot that he came out. Sad.

I haven't watched AI as much this season. I wasn't too happy with the picks they made as they narrowed it down, and I don't really like the 4-judge thing. Paula Abdul makes me tired. lol I kind of liked the roughneck, but they let him go.

Your background is great! I didn't see that one, but it makes me want to change mine again. I may do that today if I have a chance. Yours is very cute!

Hope you have a GREAT Wednesday!

Oh, I'm so glad you posted that song. I had forgotten it! I loved both Drs. Kildaire and Ben Casey! AND was sad when Richard Chamberlain came out. I never had their shirts. With 6 kids you get only the basics! :)

I haven't had a chance to watch Idol this season. I do enjoy it when I can catch it.

I did catch those shows in reruns. I love old shows and black and whites.

I saw Richard Chamberlain twice, in person. Once when he was jogging on one of Oahu beaches near his home, and the other was actually in a grocery store when they were filming Centennial in Eastern Colorado.

He's still a favorite of mine. Yummy. I read his autobiography and it's a tell all book. It's actually good to read because like you say....a heart breaker that he chose the 'other' side of life that we don't understand, but the ones that are...do. Y'know?

I usually always watch AI but I haven't had time this year. Hopefully now that it's down to the final 12 I can catch an episode or two.
I loved Richard Chamberlain in The Thornbirds. He was such a good looking man. I'm sorry he broke your heart :)

Love TCM, discovered it last June. I remember those shows, they were my mom's favorites.
They have some great movies on that channel, and then some not so great.
Have a great day

Sorry......I have never been interested in AI. I know.....sort of weird, am I not????

Sorry, too, that you had some competition in the Dr. Kildare dreams. I was sooo in love with him. I watched both Kildare and Casey with great enthusiasm and, yes, I DID have "the shirt" which I made myself. Remember the logos...man, woman, birth, death, infinity?????

We saw a play some years ago with Richard Chamberlain as the star and we had front row seats. Like you, my dreams were crushed when he came out so the play wasn't nearly as thrilling as it would have been years earlier. Don't you think WE could have changed his mind?

I haven't blogged in awhile as my mom is back in the hospital and my days are spent there. Someday I will get back to it but I have other things to tend to right now.

Have a great week and thanks for the memories. xox

I got hooked on AI when y friend's son was on. Do you remember Chris Sligh? His parents are with our mission and we have been to several conferences together.
He is doing quite well in his career and is nominated for a Dove award.

Dawn,

We didn't get a tv until I was about 12. Then it was a black and white, which suited us kids fine. Any tv was better than none.

I enjoyed Ben Casey and the Fugitive. I didn't care much for Dr. Kildaire, but then Dad was a big western fan. We watched Gunsmoke, Palidin and Rawhide. On
Saturday morning we watched cartoons and then Sky King. We were allowed to leave our chores until Saturday afternoon, but if they weren't done, the next Saturday there was no tv.

Thanks for the memories.
Blessings,
Mary

I hope you are able to get your glasses adjusted soon. I am thankful that I don't get many headaches or migraines either. It is so hard to function with one!

That was so sweet of CareBear to make a portrait of her cousin during the talent night. I think you should share your suggestions for next year. I bet a lot of adults agree with you. :-)

Yay for Kristen! I'm glad she is smoke free and doing well.

What a fun walk down memory lane! I too was so hooked on Dr. Kild*are more so then Ben Casey. I didn't have the shirt either, we just didn't have the money for things like that. I was so disappointed when he came out, never guessed that one. I'm an AI fan too. I was so disappointed when they voted Jasmine off, what a sweet girl and a beautiful voice. Hated Kel*ly Clark*sons song, rather raunchy and the other singer was just as bad. Guess I am showing my age now but is that supposed to be talent?
Been packing up my kitchen all morning, a never ending job but I will get there eventually. Now I am going to help my friend some more as we are packing up her house. I should go in the business! lol! Have a wonderful weekend! xoxo

Oh My! I LOVE TCM! Love them and record them on the direct tv to watch later or more than one. I watched Green Dolphin Street yesterday - Lana Turner, Donna Reed... I've also been watching American Idol and Lie to Me, my new favorite series...other than that I am not much into TV -- Dancing with the Stars sometimes....

Love the photos! Hugs!

Hi my sweet friend, I have been MIA this week, you are right. Oh Dr. Kildare, ~sigh~. I used to have his pictures from magazines taped up all over my walls. Richard Chamberlain was just the yummiest guy of those days. Even after he "came out" I just adored him. I loved him in the "Thorn Birds". I loved his voice. Thanks for the trip back to the days when my world was upside down. It is so refreshing to not be that same person now:) Also, would you please pray for all three of my guys jobs at this time? Things are very unstable and we are all trusting God to protect us. Thanks so much Dawn. How are all the kiddos? Well and happy I hope. Have a wonderful Friday and weekend.

Love and Hugs, Laurie

Hi Dawn, I will be praying for all that you asked. Asking God to make a way for the past things to not interfere with the present. His pardon is so much better than the worlds. Praying. Have a wonderful little get away and relax.

Love and Big Hugs, Laurie
