Just Some Fun Stuff

Another week has flown by. Week-ends go even faster. And it has been a weird one for sure.

Remember the wonderful, mild summer we had in Colorado? It was so great, but the whole time I kept thinking that it might be the precursor to a tough winter. According to the last few days, that may be the case. Normally, at this time in October, we're enjoying Indian summer (is that still okay to say?), with wonderful colors, cool mornings, crisp nights, warm days.

I'm not sure where it came from, but a storm blew in with a vengeance, along with totally record breaking temperatures. Yesterday's 16 degree morning temp broke a record made in 1905 - and we're talking a REALLY broken record - the previous record low was 25. We woke up to an inch or two of snow as well. The girlies had spent the night and they were pretty excited when they looked out the windows.

It was so cold that they didn't stay out too long, but they enjoyed a short time of very crisp air and making a few snow angels. The strangest thing, though, was that when DC shoveled off the little bit of snow from the driveway, it was primarily leaves that had fallen during the night.

When I went to the gym, I got a kick out of these two guys advertising 50% off day at the ARC thrift store - with great costumes keeping them warm -

When I got back from the gym (and a shopping spree at the above mentioned ARC store, picking up some great bargains), the leaves were pouring off our three Marshall seedless ash trees like rain - I am so sorry I didn't think to snap a picture. I've never seen anything like it. They are now barren and there is at least a two inch covering of leaves on the lawn and patio.

So much for enjoying the beauty of the colors in our back yard - they didn't even have a chance to change. So strange. The good news is that we're supposed to be back into the 60s by the end of the week.

While I was gone to the gym and the unplanned shopping spree, DC was home with the four girls. They had a great time systematically destroying any semblance of order in my house. One of the favorite things the twins enjoy -- totally dismantling a box of Kleenex. Only one of the culprits stayed around long enough for a picture. Does that look say guilty or what??

What could be better than Sponge Bob and a snack??

Feisty has spent a lot of time drawing and cutting lately. Kindergarten has changed her dramatically. She was drawing a picture of herself the other day. When she finished it she said, "Look Grandma, here's a picture of me with my nipples." I did a double take until I realized she meant "dimples." Whew!!

Then Care Bear also caught me off guard. We must have been talking about babies when she hit me with THE QUESTION - "How do babies get in the mommy's tummy?" I choked as I told her that wasn't something I was prepared to discuss with her at this time, nor was it my place to do so. She said, "My friend, Hailey, knows and she told me, 'You don't want to know!'" Oh, my word. I couldn't believe it. So cute. But scary, too. Her friend Hailey is only 9.

She hit me with another zinger that tickled me. "Grandma, if you get a brain freeze from ice cream, do you get a brain roast from hot food?"

Finally, I thought you might enjoy these great shots DC took on a summer Sunday afternoon hike around Sprague Lake.

Have a wonderful week!

This is so darned cold!!! But, being a child like your girls...you CAN enjoy the cold and snow. BRRRRRR.

Love the 'nipples' Too darned funny. And the pictures of the little ones near the lake....with the lake backdrop? GORGEOUS photos.

Oh....and I still say Indian Summer. Not that it's politically correct, but the meaning is still there for me.

HAVE A GREAT MONDAY.

Hi again...I responded to your comments @ my blog...I agreed with you. And yes...what ever happened to respect of elders? Just the other day...a teenaged girl called her mother [at the store] a 'butthead'!!! I choked.

You said cold but I had no idea it was THAT cold. Glad my visit was while it was still "Indian" summer! Sure do not know what else we would call it. Guess I am not too politically correct.
Pictures of the girls are beautiful but oh, how fast they grow up. I remember having one that could entertain herself for hours with that tissue box! Finally learned to stuff them back in and that box was hers to play with since no one could at them to actually use for their intended purpose.
Hope your week warms your heart, even if your toes are cold!

Kids say the "funnest" things!!! Man, I can't believe your temps and the snow!! YIKERS!! But what fun for the kiddies! Nice pics of the kids from the summer!

LOL Indian Summer - is is okay to say!! I love it! I guess nothing is okay anymore. But I can't keep up so I just get into trouble!

Snow! My word Dawn - that is crazy. It is cold here too but we are getting to enjoy the colors. Snow and leaves at the same time just doesn't seem fair.

Sounds like those grandgirls keep you on your toes for sure. I guess my day is coming. It sure is fun though - more fun that I ever imagined.

How crazy is the weather...my gosh 16 and snow too....whew and I thought Arkansas had weird weather....I have seriously been thinking that we are going to have a bad winter too.

Last year in the almanac it predicted a ice storm...no one believed it then it happened...well guess what? There's an even bigger one predicted for this year....yaay. NOT.

Ya Emmy has been putting some things together too....that nipples thing was too funny.

And Emmy loved to rip up kleenex....and toilet paper.
Kids...lol

The kiddo pics are always wonderful...love them laying on the rocks...and we still call it indian summer...not that we are gonna have one.

Hope all is well.
Love, jess

Beautiful pics of the girls. And you can keep the snow and cold out there with you for a while if you please...I'm not ready for that yet!

When I was pregnant my sister's 4-year old son asked me if the baby was in my belly because I ate him! Then he asked how the baby will get out of my belly!! (I told him to ask his mom!) :-)

I LOVE your joke asking if we can still say "Indian summer"! I think we can. As a teacher, you can be sure that I would NEVER tell the children to sit "Indian style" though. But I'm pretty sure "Indian summer" isn't pejorative.

I can't believe how cold it is there. Yikes. I hear we're going to have a rough winter and I am not really looking forward to it. I need to find indoor activities I can take Khai to or else I'll go crazy! :-)

Have a wonderful week, Dawn.

Wow, it is winter there!

As to y'all...I never had said it. But many do.

Oh dear...what happened to your Fall? I hope there is a little bit left after the snow melts.

Pretty funny--the nipples/dimples. Sounds like its hard, these days, to keep little girls innocent. This world forces them to grow up so fast.

We've not had frost or a freeze yet, but I really believe it won't be much longer before we do. The lows over the weekend are forecast to be in the mid-30's and highs on Sat. and Sun. are to be in the low 50's.

I've had a feeling all Summer and Fall that this Winter is going to arrive early and be a hard one, maybe even one for the record books.

Some of our leaves are beginning to show a little color, but most of them are just falling without changing. It's not shaping up to be a good year for Fall foliage viewing here.

I had to laugh about the nipples/dimples incident. ;o)

Those young'uns are growing like weeds! Great pics by the lake too.

Hope you're having a good week, Dawn.

Love and hugs,

Diane

Wow! Now I remember why I don't live where it gets so cold!!! But snow is so beautiful and the little ones love it so much! Your grandbabies are precious and I love the remark about the nipples! Of course, I would have choked on the one about how babies get in your stomach too! Mainly, because my mother never told me! (I did figure it out though) :)

You always tell us so much I don't remember what to comment on (o:
I guess even if it is young, you should have Mom tell her about babies...she seems to be hearing it anyway.
Last year the six year old Granddaughter told me all boys talk about is their 'penis'. I don't think I had even heard that word till? All to say scholl is not what it was in our day or our children's day.
Yes she did look quilty(o: and cute.
We had 4 or so inches of snow and the same rain down of green leaves.
That Lake reminded me of Lily Lake on the other side of Estes. Pretty place...and girls.
Oh and laughed at the nipples story.

Ahem...had I not asked you not to send the snow this way??? You did anyway, didn't you! hehe We got over an inch yesterday morning but thank goodness it melted pretty much right away. Today it's only gone up to 37F. Most of the leaves are all on the ground now here too but at least they had a chance to change colours before they did:-)

Omigosh I'm still giggling over Feisty's "nipples"...that is so funny!!! lol As for Care Bear asking how babies get in the tummy, they do start asking questions like that very young, don't they! Sheesh!!

I always love to see pictures of the four girls...precious every one of them. Hope you're having a great week, dear Dawn. xoxo

Wow! You got more snow then we did! Ours just melted as it hit the ground thankfully. It did take a lot of our pretty leaves too which makes me sad. I didn't even get any pictures.

What a hoot! You never know what kids are going to come out with do you? The nipples story is just a riot! She is a good little artist!

We all still say Indian summer around here. I don't know if it is PC or not but I get tired of trying to figure out what is and what isn't. One of our high school teams were the Old Town Indians and they made them change it. It's been that name for years and years. I think there are bigger things in this world to worry about then the name of a basketball team.

We leave on Friday about noontime. I'm looking forward to spending the time with the kids and grandkids. We will be back the 26th.

The pictures by the lake are just gorgeous of the girls!

Oh, out of the mouths of babes. Aren't they too cute when they come up with those comments?
Wow, I can't believe you've had snow already. I hope you are warmer now. Too early for all that stuff. lol

I'm 1/32 Sioux and I'm not offended by the term "Indian Summer", so there!

I love the pics of the grandkids!
