Recently DC and I took an early evening drive out west of our town. We had gone there a few days earlier, but forgot our cameras that time. We went the same time of the day to catch some of the scenes we were frustrated to miss when we foolishly left our cameras at home. Of course, it was a spur-of-the-moment drive the first time, so I guess we had a legitimate excuse.
We meandered through some wonderful country roads, enjoying the wonderful signs and sounds and scents. The freshly mowed hay --
The rocky ridges --
Horsetooth Rock - from an angle I've never seen it before --
This is what I've always seen from the eastern view --
The shadows at this time of evening are lovely --
We discovered this area called Bobcat Ridge, where a fire had destroyed much of the growth.
I love the look of the surviving trees on the ridge reaching toward the heavens.
This tree is fascinating to me - I wonder if it survived the fire and continues to stand.
The entry to the nature park, where students are brought every year from the area schools, has two of these beautiful sculptures --
These footprints are running across the sidewalks, as if a bobcat ran across wet pavement - I don't know if it's legitimate or not, but I Googled the paw prints and they are identical.
We met two ladies on their way down to the parking lot who had spotted a large bobcat very close to the trail - they felt he was a bit close for comfort, and was making some rather threatening sounding growls. They got a picture from a safe distance, and hightailed it down the trail.

We headed back for home, refreshed and feeling fulfilled. We stopped by our middle of town lake for a couple of shots.
I hope you enjoyed our little excursion - come and visit and we'll take you for a ride!
