The Best-Laid Plans . . .

So - I had great big plans for yesterday. I was planning to start the 40 Bags in 40 Days Challenge, as described here: Clover Lane: One Week From Now: 40 Bags, 40 Days. This is something I've needed to do for a long time, but lacked the motivation. I was primed to begin de-cluttering the many messy areas of my house.

But then - as so often happens to me, my plans took a turn. I should know better than to even make a plan, I guess. Just go with the flow. You know last year's word - flexibility!!??

Here's how it went
:
  • Kristen had a day off work and really wanted to go to the gym with me when she had a chance, so we did that.
  • By the time we got done with this and other asundry little errands, it was 11:30.
  • I decided to eat my favorite salad at Runza - Southwest Grilled Chicken Salad. I was going to just take my coin purse in, and was looking for my last $20 bill. It was gone - I have no clue where.

  • In the process of this distraction, as I slammed the door shut, I shuddered - yep, the keys were still in the ignition - AGAIN! If you've been with me long, you know this is a bad habit of mine - locking the doors with the switch on the door rather than using the remote control. I must retrain my brain! I have had two of those magnetic boxes under the car that have both fallen off - which you don't know until you need it!

  • I decided to go ahead and enjoy my lunch and deal with the problem afterward. I decided to walk home to get the spare key, which is hanging in the kitchen. When I started down the street, I changed my mind and decided to call my dear SIL, who lives close to the restaurant and is always willing to help. My cell phone was at home charging! Ugh. I could have used the restaurant's phone, but could not remember my SIL's number - she recently went to cell phone exclusively, and the number is programmed into my phone - I thought of it later, of course!

  • So - back outside to head for home - about 2 miles. It was fairly warm, but also fairly breezy. I enjoyed the walk, though, reading my book as I walked. I stopped at our church, about halfway, to use the "facilities." There was a good friend, volunteering in the office. I told her my sad story, and she offered to drive me home, and then back to my car.

  • We got to my house - guess what?? Someone has used the outdoor house key, which hangs in an obscure place - and didn't put it back. ARGGGHHHH!!! No way possible to get into the house. No key to the house, no key to the car - I called DC from her cell phone and he expressed Tough Love - he could not come home to bail me out this time.

  • So - we went back to the church, I looked up a locksmith, who met us sat the restaurant within 10 minutes. It cost $40 for his two minutes of breaking into my car (the last time this happened, it cost me $48). I later found out I could put in a claim with my insurance, but I don't have a receipt from the first one. Oh, well, one's better than none! I found out from my insurance company that we have Emergency Road Service and that they would have taken care of it. How do you do that when your information is locked in the car and you don't know the phone number to call them??

  • My friend, who was backing out of the parking spot to head back to church, almost ran into two blind people who were walking across the parking lot - very scary. I think they should probably not cut across parking lots.

  • I gladly got back into my car and headed back home. By this time I was in no mood to start a major project.

So - that was yesterday. Today I thought maybe I could get something done on this project, even though I had the two littles. But - today turned out to be a beautiful spring-like day,and being outside was ever so much more fun.

We found our first flowers - snow drop flowers - appropriately named, because in March, we can go from spring to winter blizzard in a heartbeat. Hope not this year, but it happens.

And this is all I got done on my project today - how how does one acquire this much junky plastic stuff that doesn't have tops to match? Hopefully, most of it will be gone by tomorrow. I took a "before" picture, but don't know if I dare show it - embarrassing!

Oh man...what a day!!!! I think I would have crawled back into bed and gotten out on the other side!

We have that On Star program which has been fabulous. While returned from our snow trip we needed to use it to unlock the doors when we stopped to refuel. Our kids were driving that car and the two little ones were locked inside. They had the doors opened in a minute. Amazing!!!

I agree you on all of those mismatched plastic stuff. I just threw out a whole box of stuff like that.

I'm so very sorry you had a day like that!

I have to go thru my plastics too. I have a bunch that the lids have grown legs and walked away. Either that or the gremlins sneak into my house and steal the lids.

Dawn, I've had more days like that than I can count. And I've had those 'tough love' kinda days too, when everyone is busy and can't stop to help out....but your friend was a god send in more ways than one.

Your insurance doesn't have a deductible on the policy? Heck, seems that $40 wouldn't be covered because the deductibles are way more...like $1000. Anywho...this is what I did and it has saved me --- get a window decal from your insurance company with the road service phone #. And get it in your window...pronto!!!

Love the outdoor photos. You and me both, can't stay indoors when the weather is so beautiful.

Today's Post...Srpingtime blossoms and more

PS....before I forget again [I've been wanting to come back to answer your question from last week---]

Regarding NCIS...so many of the programs this year have been mediocre. To be kind. And now it looks like they're bringing in more characters? I surely hope not. Time will tell. Let's just hope that NEXT season will improve over this one. I must admit, I get fed up with them...stop watching and then read. Only to watch them online in a day or two. Nothing was missed ....reading was better! LOL

Oh my Goodness.... we have all been there...or somewhere close to there (o: Sorry you had to go through that. I carry my phone in my pocket...that way if I were to fall (heaven forbid) I have my phone.
I think you will find that once you start filling bags ... it is addicting .... you want to do more and more (o: I can't believe how much I got rid of and still have MORE.
We need to figure out a date to get together. Would you mind meeting me down here in Longmont? I now have Tues. Thurs. and Fridays off. orrr Monday and Wed. we could meet at McDonalds with the kids. Surely we could work a day out (o:

My phone was at home charging because I have a lame brain and forgot to plug it in the night before! Otherwise, it would have been in my pocket.

We have the same Radio Flyer scooter and the same pink stroller!

Sounds like yesterday was a real adventure and a hassle! When I was 9 months pregnant with Avi I locked my keys and wallet in the car. I had Khai with me, who wasn't 2 yet. We were in Manhattan and I knew a locksmith would literally cost hundreds of dollars and take hours. So I walked over to the closest fire department and got a few fire fighters to take pity on the huge, pregnant lady with the toddler. They were so amazing! They opened my car and didn't charge me a penny. New York's finest!

And THEN, about 2 weeks after Avi was born I did it again. Except this time, both kids were in the car. Can you believe it? I locked my kids in the car! So I called the police and they arrived in minutes and got the kids out. I'm sure you can imagine how embarrassed I was!

So at least we're in good company with each other, right?!

That's the kind of day you wish you hadn't gotten out of bed! lol I have locked myself out of my car twice in my lifetime, once when Shawn was still a baby and was IN his car seat!! Good thing my husband could leave work to come unlock it within 15 minutes. I have a membership with CAA now and have the sticker with their phone number on one of the car windows so at least I can call them if I ever run into any problems like that:-)

Don't blame you for wanting to spend some time outside with the twins to enjoy the Spring weather instead of staying inside to declutter! lol We had snow all day here again today and it's downright depressing. More snow now than all winter!

Hope your weekend is a great one:-) xoxo

At least you got your exercise! I'm trying to look on the bright side of things today. I've been dragging so much that I need to!

I know your day was frustrating, but it sounded so much like something I would do that it made me laugh!

I've had days like that, no fun, but you made the best of it with some humor. The girls are really cute, and quite active. I wish I had investigated the 40 days and 40bags sooner, I like that idea and I too am decluttering my house.

As I read about the flat princess, I noticed the book on the treadmill, I just took the same one from the library. I am making an underground railroad quilt and when I saw the book, I thought it would be interesting.
God Bless
