A Big Change for the Littles - and the 40 Day Challenge

Katie and Emma have been happy nursery-goers at our church ever since they were two months old, when they were strong enough to be out of the house. We have a wonderful nursery attendant, Sandy, who has been a big part of the lives of all 4 of the girls. In fact, she speaks fondly of each of them when we talk, and says how hard it was when they moved up to the Pre-K Sunday School class. Sandy likes to tell the story of when the twins first started coming to church, people would stop by to have a look at them - she said she gave the guided tour.

This is the only picture I have of any of the girls with Sandy - this one with Feisty.

Which is precisely what has happened now with the twins. They were three on January 7, but were allowed to stay in the nursery until their due date, since they were 7 weeks premature. Sandy was very happy about that. But finally the day arrived that they had to " leave the nest."

We got there a bit early with them and enjoyed watching them scope things out --

They looked so big sitting with their sisters for music, waiting for classes to start --

It was time for us to leave them --

We made sure they were dressed differently - their new teacher was really nervous about telling them apart, so this gave her a bit of an advantage. Between Sunday School and Children's Church, the kids come over to the gym for donut time - several big girls were holding their hands and bringing them up for their treat - they never even looked at me. I was happy about that - a good sign.

Kristen and I both checked in with Sandy at various times during the morning - she was shedding tears each time. She really loves her babies and misses them terribly when they grow up. Fortunately, she still gets to see them on Wednesday nights.

Changing the subject drastically, just a little update on the 40 Bags in 40 Days challenge. I am going to be very open here and show you the horrid cupboard that I tackled first. I am embarrassed, but I'm keeping it real here.

I've watched parts of a couple of episodes of "Clean House" the last couple of days, and this one reminds me of their houses - sadly.

The plastic I showed in the previous post was mostly recycled, or some given away, and some thrown away. This is a look at the box that went to ARC the next day.

. . . and here are the "after" shots -- what is that I see -- empty space???

The next project I took on was to get my dresser drawers in order. After that was three closets - here is the result - three 39-gallon bags off to the thrift store.

Today I had the girls, so all I accomplished was one small drawer in the kitchen. It's exciting to see things shaping up, a little bit at a time.

Gosh, it is amazing how quickly the girls are growing up. They do look so small on those big chairs. I am sure they will do well and enjoy the "bigness" of the change.

Speaking of change....oh my!!! Those cupboards look great. Want to come to my house next? It would be more fun to do with a friend!!!!!

I can't believe how big the girls are getting!

Congrats on how you're moving along with cleaning out things. That's going to be my next project. After I finish fixing the shower and calking a few things and laying one more row of laminate flooring to match up with the kitchen.....

I know, I know...both having children 'leave the nest', AND cleaning cupboards and drawers. First, the girls, of course, are just darling. They're growing up so. [love the first photo with Sandy and Ms. "F" ---only 'cause I'm not exactly sure if I can spell Feisty correctly. LOL] And then your cupboards and drawers...it always makes you feel good to get a job completed...and a job well done!!

Thanks for stopping by - and ya, our beaches are always 'just like your 1st cupboard shot'...a mess until the city crews and volunteers come in after the break/college kids leave...and clean it all up.

They are just so precious Dawn. The time has gone so quickly. What a sweet nursery worker. It is obvious that she is gifted with a real love for the little ones.
You're doing a great job. I did a lot of that when I packed up (when I thought we were moving), so there isn't a lot to sort through, but amazingly enough I've managed to collect more stuff!! I am inspired to do a bit of cleaning out!

The cupboards are looking great! Well done, Dawn!

I am also battling to accept that those little girls are so grown up now. Time is flying. I just don't have to like it. Why can't they all stay small at least a little longer????

The girls have grown up so fast! It's fun and sad when we see kids leave the nursery! I work nursery one sunday a month and get so attached to the little ones!

Man, do I ever need to take that challenge! I am having such a hard time getting rid of "stuff". But you're inspiring me!

Look at you go! Very impressive friend. I can't wait to be home so I can attack my cupboards.

I am right there with you on the trauma of changing Sunday School classrooms. Madi will move up in June, and Violet will move up in November. They aren't supposed to be that big!

It is sad when they have to change classes...but they appear to be doing fine (o:
I am proud of you on your great declutter exercise. It feels good dosen't it?
Hey...this Monday or Wed. morning would be great. I would have the two littleist. I get them at 9. The McDs on main street...not far from Highway 66. Tues. Thurs. or Friday would be just us grownups...coffee at Ziggys on Main. Do any of those work for you?

Well...let me just say--YOU ROCK! All that you do...and you are tackling the 40 day challenge! YOWZER! First of all...your before photo was! not! that! bad! But the 'after' picture sure made me smile! In fact--I'm nearly inspired! ;)

The girls are so adorable Dawn. All four of them:) I am proud of you for the dent you are making in your home. I am trying a bit at a time to do the same but I keep getting overwhelmed:) Please pray for me and my prayer continue for you.

Awwww, my heart goes out to Sandy, I can well imagine how hard it is for her when the kids get old enough to move on. It sounds like the twins are going to settle right into Pre-K Sunday School with no problems:-) It always amazes me at how fast they're growing. Kristen looks really good in that picture!!

You're doing a fabulous job with your decluttering and even doing a bit every day makes such a difference. Isn't it amazing how much we can get rid of when we set our minds to it? Yesterday I brought 3 boxes full of stuff to the thrift shop again, it's a never ending process! lol

Have a great weekend, hope you can relax a bit! xoxo

How lucky those little girls are to be getting to know their loving Savior...and having fun at Sunday School.

Great job on the cupboards. Don't expect the "tupperware" area to stay neat. It's impossible!

It doesn't seem possible that the girls are old enough to be out of the nursery and in big girl classes! What a blessing to have had such a lovely nursery attendant all those years. Glad she will still see them on Wednesday nights!

You are doing really well on the challenge. The cupboards look really good! I will post a picture next time that will make you feel better about putting your picture in! ha! I am still working on the challenge and have discarded, given away, recycled and moved around soooooooo much stuff! It's such a good feeling!

Someone today at church said we were supposed to get snow this week but I have not seen the weather report so don't know if that is so. We have lost a ton of snow and had some really nice days until today and it was rather chilly. Any snow we get now won't last long anyhow. Kev lives in an area that usually gets more snow then we do, my sister is about a half hour from there and she says it's the snow belt. She said they have not lost as much snow as we have. Hope A gets good traveling weather!

Glenda said...

Oh, I wish I could get things more organized! Well, I guess I could; it's just that I haven't! Your cabinets look great! Your little ones are growing up . . . and that's hard for us grandma's, isn't it?

Have a blessed week!
