Our God is an Awesome God

Remember that old song? It is so true! Thank you so much for visiting my DIL here . I am so proud of her for telling such an important part of their story. Your responses were wonderful.

I have been reading Max Lucado's devotional thoughts again this year from his book, Grace for the Moment. Kev actually gave me this book a few years ago, and it means so much more now than it did then. His inscription reads, "Dear Mom, When things get a bit tough, maybe this will help lift your spirits." None of us had any clue at that time (undated) how really tough things were going to get.

January 14 says: Philippians 2:5, "In your lives you must think and act like Jesus."

"It's dangerous to sum up grand truths in one statement, but I'm going to try. If a sentence or two could capture God's desire for each of us, it might read like this:

God loves you just the way you are,
but he refuses to leave you that way.
He wants you to be just like Jesus.

God loves you just the way you are. If you think his love for you would be stronger if your faith were, you are wrong. If you think his love would be deeper if your thoughts were, wrong again. Don't confuse God's love with the love of people. The love of people often increases with performance and decreases with mistakes. Not so witih God's love. He loves you right where you are."

Don't you just love that??

God shows his love in unusual ways sometimes. About two weeks before Christmas, I lost an envelope with 9 $20 bills. $180!! Just before Christmas!! I never found it, and can only hope that whoever found it needed it more than I did. Today I needed gas on my way home from work. I was on empty. I meant to fill up at Sam's yesterday, but circumstances took over and got in the way. So this morning I went to work on fumes, praying that I wouldn't run out of gas. God even answers prayers when you do foolish things!

On the way home, I planned to stop somewhere just to put in a few bucks' worth until I could get to Sam's. I could just see myself walking on icy streets to the nearest gas station, borrowing a can, leaving my driver's license with them, walking to my minivan, putting $2.00 worth of gas in it, driving back to the station, putting in some more. Not a fun prospect. I "happened" to look in the little compartment under the radio and, lo and behold, there was a $20 bill. I remember putting it there, but can't remember what it was for. Obviously, I didn't need it for that after all, so it really came in handy this afternoon for some gas. What an unexpected blessing.

I have been taking care of the little rascals since Feisty was born, Care Bear was 2, and Anakin was 7. I have worked 2 1/2 days a week, switching off with Kristen for the other 2 1/2. Recently I have realized that the two entire days are really wearing me out. I realized that if I could do five half days in the afternoon, it would have lots of advantages. Kristen's department was open to the change. I didn't think there would be a problem with mine. But there was. We had to have a meeting of the entire support staff this afternoon to decide if I could have my request granted. It had to do with coverage at closing time (something I have rarely had to do). I prayed and asked for prayer from others. The answer was yes, I can do it. I think it's going to be better for the students I work with, and for my physical health.

I am finally digging out from under the blizzard on my desk. I accomplished so much today. I feel so much less stressed. Another answer to prayer.

Have a wonderful rest of the week!

I must say I love half-days. It's nice to have a reason to get out everyday, but ever better to have time with the kids everyday. Congrats on the change!

So happy that your office was able to see the benefits of letting you work 5 half days! Woohoo! Definitely a win win in my book!

I am simply amazed that given what you have had to endure with regard to your children's life threatening battles, that you held on to your steadfast faith, endured and came through it all with the glory of God leading the way.

You have an incredible family Dawn and you must be very proud. I am in awe! Feeling His love but always striving to be more like Jesus...beautiful! Love the song too!

I absolutely agree with the Awesome God/Blessings!

I'm glad you're going to get your half days. Kristen will have time with the kids every day, too. If, for some reason, it doesn't work out as well as you'd like, maybe you can make some other arrangements.

I could never count all the blessings God rains down on me every day. Never.

Have a good Friday and weekend, Dawn! :-)

Dawn,
What wonderful news that you're going to ½ days. I think that will be easier on all of you.
How fortunate was that finding your $20 bill, but too bad about losing all that money right before Christmas.
hugs!!

I just came from your DIL's post. Oh my word!!!! How terrifying! I didn't know about your son's struggle. Have you written about it here? Have I just missed it all? I am so sorry. What a wonderful miracle that he is alive and healing so well!!!!

He loves you right where you are."

Yes, I do love that. And it comforts me to know it's true.

Good for you getting them to approve the half days. I know that will be easier for you. And good for you, too, getting through the mountain of work on your desk. I know what a good feeling that is.

I would have been devastated to lose $180 right before Christmas. It must have made you sick. I think the only thing that would have kept me from being totally upset would be imagining how excited the person who found it must have been.

I know how happy you were to find that $20 bill right when you needed it. When Rob was in the hospital, in his pre-op room waiting to go into surgery, he handed me his St. Christopher's medal to put in my purse. I decided to put it in a zippered side pocket for safekeeping and when I unzipped the pocket, I found $54 I'd put in there, probably during a Christmas shopping excursion. What a blessing it was!

I seriously hope you and Kevin and you daughter-in-love get together to write his story. It would be wonderful to hear it from your perspective, his wife's perspective and maybe he could do guest posts on one of your blogs so we could hear it from his perspective.

Whew! I'm taking over your comments! Talk to you again soon.

I think this new working arrangment will certainly be a lot better for you...you'll most probably notice the benefits right away:-) Love how your faith has held up while your family was going through so much but then it was your faith that got you through it all too! It's said that God never gives you more than you can handle but sometimes it sure does seem to be a lot!! Don't you just love finding money you didn't remember you had? lol Hugs xox
