Kona Adventure - Part 4

So little time - so much to share! I'm tired tonight, because we've been on the go since 7:30 this morning. I will tell more as time goes on. But tonight I just want to share two pictures. The last time we were here, we found little places along the side of the road in the countryside where leis would be hanging on wooden rods beside their mailboxes. They had made them and trusted you to put $2.00 in a box and take a lei.

We went back up to see if they still did this, and found a place where they now place them in a cooler, trusting you to put $3.00 in a very well fastened down heavy box. They still trust you to put the money in, but they want to be sure nobody takes the box!

The leis are so gorgeous and so fragrant. I just wish they lasted longer!

I'm glad you're having a good time. What a beautiful lei.

Good Morning Dawn,
Those lei's are just beautiful. I would so love to have one. I bet they do smell good. Okay, here goes another one of my questions. I am just enjoying this so much and learning new things about Hawaii. What kinds of flowers do they make the lei's from? Your dear husband looks nice with the one around his neck. Such beautiful colors. I can't believe that they leave that money sitting in the cooler. I just wonder if they have someone watching it from the bushes or anything? I mean these days and times and how some people are, one never knows. Since I've never been to Hawaii, I don't think $3.00 is bad for a lei. I know there has to be alot of time in making them. Well, take care my friend and have a great Thursday. May God Bless You and Yours. Thank you so much for this part of your adventure.

Hugs,
Karen H.

Plumeria is one of my favorite scents!

One of my favorite memories from Hawaii was the incredible scents from the flowers - plumeria, freescia, and gardenia. Incredible!
One night we were sitting on the beach enjoying the incredible evening when a little girl ran up to me and placed a lei around my neck! I felt like a queen!

I can almost smell those plumeria!
What a bargain for $3.00. Our daughter wore a lei for her college grad and I won't even tell you what that cost!
You look so happy in that photo :)

The honor system. How sweet is that? $3 for that gorgeous lei? That's a great deal.

Look at you in your cute hat and tee shirt. You look like you're enjoying every moment of this vacation. :-)

Ooo, those ARE pretty!

Folks here often sell farm produce that way - with a roadside stand and a honor pay system. It sure beats sitting out in the sun all day!

So beautiful! Both the lei and the lady. ;-)
