Monday Musings

Many thanks again for your prayers for us - Kristen has improved greatly and was able to take the big girls home for the night Saturday night. We kept the babes so she could ease back into motherhood a bit at a time. The littles are at home tonight - I get to go to the gym in the morning! We have such wonderful people in our church - someone realized how tired I am and that we could use a bit of a break. So two days this coming week, a young gal has offered to take care of the kids and do whatever we want, while someone else has offered to pay her. Isn't that awesome? There's nothing like the church family.

It has been fun having them, though exhausting. The littles especially are changing daily and it's been our privilege to watch it happen up close and personal. Grandpa DC has become VERY attached and was quite bumbed out to learn they were leaving us last night.

But as we dropped the babes at home, this song came to my mind. The lyrics aren't totally apropos, but the title is running through my brain - enjoy a blast from the past.

The latch on the dishwasher broke again. The handy dandy handy man came back over on Friday afternoon. It's funny how you don't realize what all is captured inside the dishwasher until you need it for meal prep - I am thankful that it is fixed again. I think it will last this time.

The littles enjoyed a bit of entertainment, watching him while they had their snacks.

Last year about this time I did a post on my friend Ruth's beautiful iris garden. She has probably 50 different varieties, and knows the name of each one. She gifted us with rhyzomes for two beautiful colors. We took a little jaunt out to their acreage Saturday afternoon with the girls.

If you enlarge this one, you can see the littles in their great new ride!

Recently Ruth and her husband have expanded their interests and bought some yaks. The girls really enjoyed seeing them, as well as the horses that belong to their neighbors. The bull has so much heavy fur that he likes to stay in the shade when it warms up. After all, they are from the mountains of Tibet, where it is quite cool --

This is the mama yak - I didn't get a shot of the yearling.

They also have this little calf named Sophie - she looks like an Oreo. I learned that yaks and certain breeds of cattle can be bred together.

Doesn't she have an adorable face?

The plan is to use the wool - they'll be making their own yarn and knitting beautiful things. I can't wait to see the first finished product. They also plan to have some good meat - though I think they'll have a hard time carrying out that plan - I can tell they're really attached.

Back in the 50s and 60s, long before Walker Mowers were invented, the family manufactured golf carts. Nobody knows how many were sold, but Dave has managed to track down two of them that the owners were willing to sell to him. He made the afternoon visit so much fun for the big girls, as he took them all over the property - we could hear their gleeful giggles from quite a distance.

We ended the delightful visit with some delicious juice and cookies on the patio. It was just what we needed after a very busy week.

Have a wonderful week!

OOhh, sounds like a great evening with friends. The golf carts are really neat looking and the girls probably loved riding around.

Glad to hear Kristen is feeling better and easing back in with the munchkins. I hope all continues to go well.

Have a great week!

Those yaks are beautiful! As is the iris...they're one of my favorite flowers and I have none in our yard except for the japanese iris that bloom in Autumn. Will have to get some bulbs some day!

And yes, I so understand about the sounds of silence. What a drag after having your little ones with you for some time. And yes,....church family can't be beat. There is always an open heart and a helping hand.

Your kitchen is lovely. And now that you have a handle on dishwashing...you can come pick up mine to add. Okay?

Thanks for stopping by this morning AND I just added a full length wall photo. It's not that good, since it's in the narrow hallway, but I tried....just for you.

Dawn,

Yes, "The Sound of Silence," is what runs through your mind when the Grands go home. Mine too sometimes. lol

The iris are beautiful. Hubby is going to make me an iris bed this year and I'm moving all of my iris to it. That way I'll get a much better showing. I've wanted to do it for years now. We move our iris in August.

Glad to hear that Kristen is on the mend. She's had a time of it.

I can imagine how much fun it was for the girls to ride in that golf cart and the cookies sound delicious.

Take care, my friend.
Blessings,
Mary

There surely is a wonderful angel in your church who helped supply the babysitter. That's really awesome!

Great time at your friends acerage. The flowers are just gorgeous. I love the cart ride for the older girls, that looks like so much fun for them. And getting a little break is great for you. I had only two grandkids this weekend but it is really hard to get things done too.
Love you and have a great day.

Love and Hugs, Laurie

I do hope that Kristen is on the mend for good and will have some good health for a while. Poor thing, she has had a tough year or two and I think it's hard on your body and you get run down. So glad your church family stepped in to lend a helping hand. What would we do without our church families? I can't imagine being without mine! I hope we never have to move as I would hate to leave my church family.

Those irises are just gorgeous! I can't imangine having so many different kinds. Just beautiful.

I would love to see those yaks. Have never seen any in person just on the television. What a great afternoon trip for all of you.

We are smack dab in the middle of black fly season. Hopefully Kev is nearer town so that they aren't so thick. It will be this way for about three weeks and then it will be fine again for the most part, just mosquitos at night.

Hubby is flying home tonight so I should make something yummy for a snack for him for when he arrives. I think I will make brownies and put ice cream on them. I think he will be happy! haha!

I'm glad to hear that Kristen is doing better and you will hopefully get a little rest soon yourself. The church family was most generous in their offers.

The visit to the farm looks like it was a blast for the kids. That is quite the yak.

I remember the beautiful iris post and these too are stunning. Too bad they don't last year round.

We are still on the road with our gang and hope to be home on Wednesday. The weather has been amazing with record lows in the Black Hills and LOTS of snow. What a summer vacation!

I'm so glad Kristen is doing better. I hope she regains her strength quickly. The flowers are pretty and looks like the girls had fun with the animals.

Thought I'd surprize you with a visit. Glad things are better for your daughter, and yes, Church "Family" is wonderful,
part of our calling, and so good when we can see it, and as usual, your pics are great.

Such great news to hear that Kristen is feeling so much better! I know how much you love the girls but I also know how completely exhausting it is to keep them so I've no doubt you're now enjoying a bit of time to yourself:-) The Sounds of Silence has always been my favourite Simon & Garfunkel song!!

I've never had a dishwasher but my mom always had one and I know how much she would miss it whenever it broke down. Glad you were able to get yours repaired again!

Those irises are absolutely stunning! Mine are growing really well and just starting to bud now so it won't be long they'll be in bloom. The could have been blooming a lot sooner than this but the temps have been so cool, it's not helping with the growing!!

What a treat to have seen those yaks and yes, that calf named Sophie is just adorable:-)

Have a wonderful week, my friend. xoxox

I love that your church family came to your rescue! What a beautiful picture of Jesus that was.
I always say "I don't run my life - my life runs me". I think you could say that too!
I'm glad things are getting a bit back to normal and that Kristen is feeling better.
And what a cool golf cart! Your visit looked delightful. Funny, I mentioned a yak in my post today too!

I finally had some time to catch up and to see the twins progressing, brushing their own teeth, so cute! Glad to hear Kristen is better and now maybe this week will be back to normal. What a blessing to have such good friends to pitch in and help. Your wrist looks better and I hope the brace helps with the twins. I will keep all of you in my prayers with hopes this will be a restful week for you!

Loved seeing the Iris garden and meeting the Yaks. What a fun place to take the girls.

I really miss going to camp. I almost wanted to cry seeing those pictures. How I would love to escape to "camp" right now.

A very enjoyable post!

I know I'm WAY late, but I'm also glad Kristen is recovering and things are going back to normal.

I'm younger than you by a wee bit, but my 3 grandkids absolutely wear me out! Kudos to your church family for jumping in to help!

And that yak - all I can think is "Mercy, that's a lot of grooming!"
