Spring Break Fun - Part I

Spring Break is officially over. We had one really nice day, several mediocre weather days, and the rest were windy and yucky. But we did our best to have some fun. I seem to have forgotten a lot of what we did - what does that say?

One day we went to the little museum downtown. I hadn't been there for a long time, the but girls had been there with their great aunt not long ago. They really like it there, and the littles had their first experience. I wanted to go to see a display of pioneer women. but we went through all of the exhibits.

We stopped for a family picture in front of the museum - with this sculpture family.

One display was art from all of the schools in town - Care Bear spent her time trying to find the ones from her school - and was disappointed at how few there were. We went on to my favorite part - the feeling of going back in history to our town.

The doctor's office

The milliner's shop

The General Store

The hotel - looking from the lobby out on the street

The girls sitting on the "upstairs"

The biggest industry for many years was the sugar factory - it is now unused, and the buildings are in ugly disrepair - I wish they'd decide what to do with that area of town.

Upstairs was the "Loveland Valentine Remailing" display

I liked this one because it was the year I graduated from high school --

Some of the yearly special valentines

We finally got to the pioneer woman display. It featured dolls with outfits from various periods of history.

This one represents the first public teacher in Loveland, for whom the girls' school was named --

I love this crazy quilt, which is one of the few things which was salvaged from the terrible Big Thompson flood of 1976.

In the front area of the museum is a refurbished buggy - it looks a lot like a stagecoach, but smaller - I call it a pioneer mini-van. The girls had so much fun dressing up in period clothes and pretending they were going on a trip.

We ended up the morning at Mc D's, where they spent a lot more time playing with their PetShop toys than eating.

Stay tuned for Part II of Spring Break Fun.

Great photos of your gals!! They do look like they had a lot of fun with Grandma!! The sugar factory...I seem to remember it. Barely, but I do recall all the sugar beets in the railroad cars.

Oh and speaking of weather, while watching the Houston Astros game yesterday, the announcers said that the Rockies game was postponed because of snow? Figures!!

That looks like a lot of fun....is that a children's museum? What is the name of it?
Thursday at ten would work. I need to stay in town...so the North part of Main would have to do. 50 cent coffee at McDonalds , or 3 dollar coffee at Starbucks. Would either one of those work for you? The middle of main has a neat coffee shop called Ziggy's. What do you think? Let me know. email me @ Richkinz@hotmail.com or leave a message on my blog (o:

What a fun day!
My husband's grandparents had a cabin on the Big Thompson River.
Great pictures. Those little gals are growing like weeds!
I had to go in to Pueblo yesterday for groceries. There were 50 mph winds. It was horrible!
But, the sun is shining now and that makes it all better!
Happy week to ya!

What a wonderful museum! I absolutely love museums that have historical scenes set up like that. I can look for hours through each of the rooms. Looks like the girls had a fun time.

Looks like you all had a great time! I love the little museums like that - so much character!

It seems like much of the country is being shorted out of a decent Spring this year - I know we are! But with such calamity in other parts of the world, we're blessed!

Now that's what I call a fun day! I absolutely adore visiting museums, especially that type. I can't even imagine, though, having to wear those long dresses with the hose, bloomers, crinoline, etc, every day to teach! lol The girls looked like they were all having a great time and I especially love the idea of being able to play dress up and get on the stage coach:-) Looking forward to hearing the second part of the Spring Break!! xoxo

Looks like a fun adventure. :-) That would be fun to have the kids dress up in pioneer clothing.

I can relate to the McDonald's toys!
