Thirteen Things I Will Never Understand

thursday thirteen

  1. Vandalism - why kids are out at 2:00 in the morning doing damage to the library, the senior center, schools, the rec center, bronze sculptures in their town.
  2. Thong underwear.
  3. Drivers who jump into the fast lane and then slow down, causing me to have to almost hit them.
  4. Cell phones in church - and the people who forget to turn them off!
  5. Girls who wear huge words on the back of their shorts or sweats.
  6. The allure of Las Vegas - to me it seems like a huge monument to greed and false hope.
  7. People who have dogs that they never play with, who bark 24/7 and drive the neighbors crazy. One of our neighbors told the complaining neighbor that if they didn't like it, they could move!
  8. Lousy editing in the newspaper - typos and usage errors in headlines and stories. My English teacher personality wants a red pen in hand as I read the paper.
  9. Adults who can't follow directions - I work so hard to make things clear and easy to understand and I still get too many questions.
  10. Wearing flip flops in the snow.
  11. Why some people have such great hair and I DON'T.
  12. Why people walk around in groups of friends, each one talking to someone else on the phone.
  13. Why time goes faster every year!

Those 'words on seat bottoms' are really bizarre to me. Of course I was raised in a time when it would inappropriate to either draw attention to it or to even LOOK at it!

Loved your list!

YES!YES!YES! I agree with every single thing on your list!!
Another thing that bugs me: (Ooh. I think you've inspired me to do a pet peeve TT) people who walk 6 wide on a sidewalk and will not rearrange themselves so one or two people coming from the opposite direction can fit through, especially when the one or two people (me and my husband) have a toddler (our daughter) with us & we're forced to step off the sidewalk & walk in the traffic of the parking lot containing said sidewalk. Okay. Deep breath. Sorry. :)
And I have an English teacher personality too. I really should be an editor. It's SO very distracting to read stuff with typos in it.

Oops - I just remembered #14 - peopel who don't stay on the right of the sidewalk or stairwells - it appears that nobody is teaching school kids proper etiquette in many areas.

I don't understand many of the items on your list either! Over hear years I've grown to dispise cell phones!

I also can't stand the words on the seat bottoms either, and there are many people I see wearing them that shouldn't!

I could have probably had all 13 about cell phones alone. They have done so much to lower the standards of etiquette in this world of ours!

Yep, I agree with everything on here, and probably could add a few more, but I'll save you the space. I'm an Editor-at-heart, too.

I love the book title you have in mind. Diane (PFYP) suggested another good one last week that I just have to get.

I agree with all 13. Great post.

Totally agree!
In church on Sunday someone's cell phone rang and the pastor paused, looked at them, and said "if that's the Lord, could you tell Him I have a question please?"...it was so perfect!!

Hope you're enjoying your evening.

I don't understand any of those things either! And I know we could all add dozens more to the list without much thought.

Just wanted to say how excited I am about your son & thanks for letting your family be part of my blog this week!

Did anyone catch the irony of the typo in one of my own comments??

Hi, Dawn, and I agree with everything on your list. Especially #13!! :-)

I confess, grammar and spelling are one of my pet peeves, too. :-)

Great first TT! Agree with you! In particular #2--so unfortable, don't let anyone tell you otherwise, they are lying! #3 that is just so rude! #4--what are they thinking! #7--my neighbors! Thanks for visitng my TT!

I agree with all of these, except I can tell you what the purpose of thong underwear is: to avoid showing panty lines. But they definitely aren't the most comfortable thing in the world to wear.

#14 - YES! It's like driving a car folks! You drive on the right side of the road (hopefully, in America at least), so walk on the right side of the sidewalk, stairwell, hallway, what have you! ;)
And yes, I caught the irony in one of your own comments. :)

Well, I know why girls wear logos on their bums... and other parts for that matter. (To attract attention there, of course.)

I'm with you on #13! So sad.

And let me assure you that I, for one, am teaching my girls to walk on the right! "This is America, not Britain, girls...we drive on the right." lol.

Yes..I can identify and the time does go by faster the older we get. Is it because we realize we are 'running out of birthday candles' as my daughter once remarked in concern to her Grandma at Grandma's birthday party. hope that makes sense to you...=)
