The Twins - Day Two

No new pictures - I didn't have a camera with me today when I went to visit the little darlings (my new camera came in the mail yesterday, but I didn't even have time to open it until this evening). They were very snuggled up in their little isolettes, covered with quilted padding to keep them nice, cozy, and dark. Emma decided she didn't want to have that oxygen dispenser in her nose any more, so she pulled it out - they didn't put it back in, as far as I know. Feisty the Sequel for sure!!

They had nice little warm spongebaths and their hair was so fluffy and pretty. But it would have been hard to get very good pictures today.

Kristen has been uncomfortable today, and feeling quite fuzzy and spacey from all the pain meds. She's also itching quite a bit. But she's going to be fine, I'm certain of that.

In the mid-afternoon, both girls had a bit of up and down blood pressure, which of course made their mommy nervous. I tried to encourage her that there will probably be lots of these ups and downs with their tininess. From what I gathered from the docs and nurses yesterday, they'll probably be in NICU for about four weeks.

The staff is wonderful - so kind and so very professional. We are blessed to have such good care for both Kristen and the babies.

This evening, about now in fact, they'll be doing the PKU test on each of them. This is a test that is required by law to be done on all newborns (see http://children.webmd.com/phenylketonuria-pku-test for info on this test).

We are so thankful for these miracle babies. All of you had a part in this miracle. And speaking of miracles, remember Micah?

Such great news, I thought I'd check to see if there was anything new before I went to bed.

That's good news.

I remember after I had Karen (C-section), they gave me penicillin for an infection and I got really itchy. She might be having a reaction to a medication.

Would you update the family? Not everyone reads here. Thanks!

It's going to be hard for Kristen to leave the hospital without the babies, but it's such a comfort to know they're in such excellent care.

I'll never forget that PKU test - it killed me when I realized they were going to stick my baby's little foot in the heel.

I hope you're recovering and resting, Dawn. I know you're pretty darn busy right now. I'll be in your shoes at the beginning of March and I'm already trying to store up some extra rest.

Congratulations again on your new grandbabies.

I'm off to see what's up with Micah - sounds like it may finally be some good news.

Thanks for the update, Dawn. Great news!

I'm going to go way out on a faith limb here and say that I don't think those babies will be in the hospital nearly that long. I think they'll be home way before that 4 weeks is up.

Hope Kristen feels better soon and is able to come home.

Also, if she's taking morphine for pain it's notorious for causing intense itching. Just a thought....

Love and hugs,

Diane

Congratulations to Kirsten and your whole family. I have twin girls who are now 24, and they were born 2 weeks early by emergency C-Section, but they were big enough not to need ICU for more than a couple of hours.

Great news Dawn! Now be sure to take care of yourself and get your rest. Kristen and the twins need for you to be healthy so you can help them. I will continue to keep all of you in my prayers and anxiously wait for more pictures.

Good Afternoon Dawn,
I'm just now catching up. I've been offline for a couple of days. "CONGRATULATION'S" on the birth of 2 precious baby girls. They are beautiful. And, they don't look too preemie to me. "PRAISE GOD" they are doing okay. I will continue to lift Kristen and the babies up in prayer. It will take Kristen a while to recover, but she is a strong Woman and GOD will take care of her as well as Emma and Kate. "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" Emma and Kate. It is so finally glad to meet you both. "THANK YOU" Dawn for sharing such beautiful pictures with us. I know it is a big relief that they are both finally here and to be able to see them both. Take care my friend and have a great day. I will be checking back with you often for updates. You try and get some rest too. May God Bless You and Yours.

Hugs,
Karen H.
